Roads, junctions & tram-trains

The announced construction tools open up more ways to connect a network.

Episode 3 introduces continuous construction, flexible intersections, lane controls and configurable traffic-light phases. Classic construction remains available. Cargo trams and eligible tram-trains expand tram operation, with tram-trains following road rules on streets and rail signaling on tracks. Railway line priorities can influence competing services and reservation distance.

Sketch movements before geometry

A junction drawing is easier to evaluate when it shows intended movements, not just the shape of the roads. On paper, draw where each approach should lead. Mark the movements that share space. This general planning exercise can help you decide which part of a future in-game experiment deserves attention first.

Editorial perspective

More tools do not require every junction to become more complicated. Begin with a readable layout and a stated purpose. If you add a special movement or a shared corridor, explain which journey it improves. The drawing should remain understandable when you return to it after working on another part of the map.

Questions for hands-on testing

For a mixed tram and rail experiment, document the chosen vehicle and every transition. Observe what happens where operating rules change, and record the effect on other services. For a road experiment, keep the traffic demand and observation window consistent. We have not verified throughput, ideal signal phases or universal vehicle compatibility, so this article does not offer a copy-and-build junction blueprint.
