Transport Fever 3 Requirements: Low FPS, Crashes & Build Checks

Compare the official PC requirements, separate slow rendering from simulation slowdown, and collect the right evidence for a crash report.

Start with the failure, not a random settings list

If the game will not launch, check AVX2/OS compatibility before graphics tuning. For low FPS, compare the same view paused and running. For a save-load crash, preserve that save and test a new unmodded game. Record your build before following patch advice.

Updated October 30, 2026: corrected the PC Stable and Preview answer against the current official notes. Requirements and diagnostic checks were last reviewed October 19.

PC REQUIREMENTS AND DIAGNOSIS

The Windows table below follows Steam. Paradox still lists a lower recommended NVIDIA/AMD GPU pair; that difference is shown rather than silently resolved. Neither listing specifies a guaranteed frame rate or late-game city size.

Do recommended specs guarantee smooth large maps?

No frame-rate target accompanies the requirement table. The official troubleshooting manual distinguishes drawing the scene from advancing the simulation. A PC may render a paused view comfortably but struggle to advance a developed map at higher simulation speed.

For a useful comparison, match the save, camera, resolution, settings and game build. A video of a small new map cannot establish performance in your existing city.

Why are the two recommended GPU lists different?

Steam recommends RTX 3070 / RX 6800 / Arc A770, while Paradox lists RTX 3060 Ti / RX 6700 XT / Arc A770. We found no explanation on those pages. For purchase screening, retain the stricter relevant requirement instead of interpreting the lower list as a benchmark. Verify the chosen store again before spending on hardware.

Mac and Linux: use their own requirements

Steam’s Mac minimum is Apple M2 Pro with 16 GB memory and macOS Sequoia 15.7 or later; recommended is M4 Pro with 24 GB. Intel Macs are not listed. Linux specifies Ubuntu 24.04 or later. Steam lists an SSD for all three OS sections. A similar product name is not enough: write down the exact chip and OS version.

Make a hardware record you can reuse

Record CPU model; GPU model; system RAM; graphics VRAM; OS; driver version; display resolution; SSD free space; store and build. Keep RAM and VRAM in separate fields. This avoids a report such as “16 GB memory” leaving the reader unsure which limit is being discussed.

Add the save name and active mod list. Those details let a helper compare like with like instead of guessing from the age of your PC.

Does Linux support mean Steam Deck works well?

Not by itself. This check does not establish a Steam Deck rating, handheld frame rate, console resolution mode or performance on a particular console save. Treat those as separate purchase questions. A useful platform report needs the device, game build, map and settings; a generic “runs well” comment leaves too much unknown.

Low FPS: run one comparison before changing everything

Keep the camera at a fixed view. Compare paused and normal-speed play, then lower resolution scale and repeat the same view. If paused rendering improves, keep investigating graphics load. If the camera is smooth but higher simulation speed scarcely advances vehicles faster, use the manual’s simulation checks instead.

This comparison narrows the question; it does not prove which component is faulty. Record before/after results and restore settings that did not help. The manual also points to texture quality when VRAM is near capacity.

No start, hidden window, or crash while loading?

Choose the matching branch. No launch at all: check AVX2 and OS support, then drivers, game-file verification and overlay interference. A taskbar icon without a visible Windows window: try Win+Shift+Left/Right to move the window between monitors, or Alt+Enter. A load/create crash: official support suggests testing without mods and signing out of Mod Hub.

Use a new unmodded game as a comparison; preserve the original save. If only the modded save fails, record that difference instead of overwriting it during an experiment. Copy stdout.txt immediately after failure: the manual says a new launch overwrites it.

Xbox saved-data warning or controller softlock

On October 19, support still lists the premature Xbox saved-data warning without a workaround. Do not interpret it as an instruction to delete a city. For the listed empty-construction-menu controller softlock, support gives save-and-reload as the workaround. Match the exact symptom and platform before applying that advice.

What did the October 8 Steam update change?

Stable 40420 includes rendering and video-memory improvements, among other fixes. It is a historical change list, not a measured FPS increase. If you already run that build, repeating “install the October 8 patch” adds no diagnosis. Move on to a repeatable symptom and the comparison above.

Which build is Stable, and which is Preview?

Checked October 30: the official PC notes list Steam Stable 40425 (October 24), and the Preview heading says it is currently the same version as the default branch. Version 40423 (October 22) is listed without a store qualifier. The last separately labelled Epic/GOG entry is 40420 (October 15); do not infer that the Steam-labelled 40425 build is installed on another store or console. Compare the build number at the main menu’s bottom right with the official notes for your platform.

Preview remains a test branch when a newer build is offered. The update manual warns that a save written in a newer testing version may not load in an older release. Preserve a separately named save before changing branches.

What changed in the October 22 and 24 updates?

Stable version 40423 (October 22, 2026) lists improved render performance for several HUD icons and station models, better performance while the vehicle store is open, improved graphic memory management, and better in-game performance when running multiple mods. The Steam-labelled version 40425 (October 24) fixes a crash on RTX 50xx GPUs introduced with the NVIDIA GeForce 621.01 driver; the October 22 announcement advised NVIDIA users not to install that driver, or to roll back, until a fix shipped. Check your driver and game version before treating a new crash as a hardware problem.
